Kinky Trends

Kinky Trends

With any culture and society we all witnessed the ebb and flow of trends and the popularity of things that are good, bad, and just plain terrible. This is a shortlist of three good and three terrible trends that I have witnessed over the last few years.

Current “sexy” trends:

  1.  Stiletto Nails

I just recently got my nails done but I have been long seeing trends of the stiletto nail shape and sometimes hear how intense of a sensory experience this nail shape is with people who like to be scratched. Not old is the nail shape on trend still with celebrities and social media, I enjoy seeing the images of high crystalized nail art, mood changing gel polish, and a high proficiency in nail art. It’s a good year to be a nail tech.

  1. Covert Toy Designs

Specifically covert vibrators. The Vesper and the Wink by Crave were created by fellow female industrial designer Ti Chang. The concept of making a tool that outsiders don’t know about and insiders recognize instantly is one of the many reaching  goals of Bait’D Designs. The bondage area has a few competitors that I can appreciate but I enjoy that Bait’D is doing something unique. Wearing your kink openly and beautiful.

  1. Open sexuality

There is so much pride in being of a generation of people where there are less inhibitions about sexuality. That vibrating necklaces can be worn freely and conversations about sex toys only make you blush for a moment. Ideas about gender are being spoken about and new titles are being made. The conversations are happening and they are becoming less taboo. You still may not want to talk about it with your parents but it is certainly no longer impolite dinner conversation.

Trends that should die:

  1. 50 Shades of Grey

I respect the author that wrote the book. I respect the craft it takes and the success obtained by the creation of a novel. However, the ideas it put into the public’s mind as to what kink is, is abhorrent. It is not a compliment is someone who is lacking in education refers to 50SOG and Bait’D in the same sentence. You can’t hate on the product lines created on the coattails of the book and films. Someone made some money, I am sure. However, these are equivalent to the dreaded pink fuzzy handcuffs that someone thought someone would adore.

  1. Bad Porn

We live in an age where this should no longer be a problem. However it still exists in astonishingly bad ways. Porn should be fun, entertaining, and maybe even a treat to watch. But poor skill in filmmaking, or terrible casting, or even inappropriate casting takes all the fun out of a good porn flick. Nothing gets you out of the mood faster that an actor that obviously does not want to be there. Sometimes a story line is needed, sometimes it’s not, so I do believe that there is room for everything. But porn creation that is listening to the male head honchos that are cutting the checks and not listening to the market that will purchase, download, or stream it is just sad.

  1.  Revenge Porn

Did you know about 4% of Internet users (about 10 million people) have been victims of revenge porn. Be it pictures or videos, the posting of content without the person’s permission meets the definition for Revenge Porn. I get and understand the appeal of amateur porn but putting something private and intimate out for others to see when one or both parties did not consent is down right crewel. Unfortunately, there are a lot of sites that feed into this black hole of the Internet, providing access and offering a platform for it’s distribution. I honestly do not care what someone has done, I cannot wrap my brain around how any person can find it ok to do this to another soul.
